Infants Mental Health Awareness Week

Infant mental health is an often overlooked and misunderstood subject. T

The first 1001 days, from conception to age two, is a period of rapid growth. During this time babies growing brains are shaped by their experiences, particularly the interactions they have with their parents and other caregivers.

Babies are reliant on parents to respond to their needs. Parents who are tuned in and able to respond to babies’ needs sensitively in an appropriate and timely way, support their early development in profound ways:

*Parents responses shape how babies experience their emotions and how they learn to regulate and express their emotions

*When babies receive appropriate comfort and care, they can feel safe and begin to explore the world around them, to play and learn.

*When parents provise positive, playful interactions and when they engage in play and activities such as singing and reading to their baby, this provides stimulation that helps a child to learn and develop.
